This tutorial is intended for people under Debian or distributions based on it (Ubuntu, Xandros ...). All commands in this tutorial are executed as root. (su command). It does not require any prerequisites.

Decompressing the Firefox archive

First of all we need to download the Firefox's package from the website:

Now, we will move this archive to the user's documents folder. To do that, execute the following command:

mv nom_fichier.tar.bz2 /home/user_name/firefox.tar.bz2
cd /home/user_name

We can decompress the archive by executing the following command:

tar jxvf firefox.tar.bz2

We hide the Firefox folder with the following command:

mv firefox .firefox

Add Firefox in « Applications »

First of all we will download the Firefox icon on the website:

Now that the Firefox icon is downloaded we can copy it in the Firefox folder with the following command:

mv firefox.png /home/user_name/.firefox/firefox.png

Then we will add Firefox to the « Applications » menu. To do that, we right click on the « Applications » menu, and click « Edit menus ».

We need to add the following line at the end of the file:

# non free
# --------

deb stable main contrib non-free
deb-src stable main contrib non-free

We can now update the package list and install the package « flashplugin-nonfree ». To do that, execute the following command:
